AfterDomesticViolence.com is dedicated
to making a positive change in the way recovery from abuse is handled in America.
I'm Rebecca, a (clinically) thriving survivor of domestic violence. I have published a book, And Be Happy, A Memoir of Healing. about my experiences leaving and recovering from an abusive marriage.
Isolation is a primary tool of abuse and often continues long after the "end of the abuse" because there is much discomfort in mainstream conversation around discussion of intimate partner and domestic abuse. We survivors end up feeling alone when our healing is taboo.
I wrote And Be Happy because we survivors deserve to have each other, to enjoy a sense of community and belonging. Knowing the struggles and the success of others builds that sense of community. I spent a long time unsure if I would ever be OK, if any amount of time, support group meetings, or therapy I had under my belt would get me to happiness. That time, however, is over.
Now is the time to answer the call of my fellow survivors and do my part to end the silence around recovery from domestic violence.
Please get yourself a copy of the book if you feel you are unaffected by domestic violence because the more you know about the dynamics of abuse the better the social environment becomes for survivors.
Be sure to subscribe to the blog for conversations on domestic violence recovery and information on ending domestic violence.
Together we can heal.
